 Unit 3: Academic Reading The “SQ3R” method is a reading comprehension strategy that helps in understanding and retaining information from texts.  It stands for S urvey, Q uestion, R ead, R ecite, and R eview: 1. Survey: Skim the material first to get an overview. Look at headings, subheadings, summaries, and any charts or diagrams.     2. Question: Turn headings into questions. Ask yourself what you want to learn from the reading. 3. Read: Read actively to answer the questions you formed. Focus on understanding key points. 4.
